Setting the Scene for Derby’s Skyline – ‘The Landmark’

Proposed development, ‘The Landmark’, set to be built by Godwin Developments would create 900 jobs if given the go ahead. Planning documents put forward by the scheme’s planning agents, Cushman and Wakefield, claim the development has the potential to generate 900 job openings throughout its build. Once built it is estimated that between 10 to 15 full time jobs will be created. The built to rent (BTR) scheme, which is aimed at young professionals, will contain just over 200 apartments with onsite facilities such as a gym, residents lounge and concierge service.

Feedback from the public consultation was ‘very positive’ and ‘a scheme that Derby needs to see happen’.

Furthermore, with big corporations such as Bombardier, Rolls Royce, Toyota and the NHS being situated in Derby, the need for housing is high, those who are on graduate schemes may not be in the position to buy a property which is why BTR is so important for future economic growth. These corporations take on average 300 graduates per year, in which over half are new to the area. Without accommodation near their workplace they are forced to commute from bigger cities, increasing their cost of living making it unsustainable to stay in Derby for more than 3 years.

Godwin hope to build an environment which is harmonious for graduates and young professionals to work and play. They hope the submission will be granted as they bring to life a pioneering development that will change the shape of Derby, bringing in much needed accommodation to the city.
